Cumberland Singers Member Contract (updated January 2024)
In addition to striving toward musical excellence, the Cumberland Singers also strive to create a
positive community among its members. To achieve this goal, we ask that you read the following
contract, consider whether or not our community requirements match your goals and abilities, and if so,
sign below to indicate that you will endeavor to be a contributing part of our community. Please talk to
the director if you have questions or need clarification. We look forward to singing with you!
Each singer is expected to do her best to:

  1. Participate fully by committing to attendance at rehearsals, arriving on time, silencing cell
phones, refraining from talking during working time, taking care of our rehearsal space by
leaving it as we found it, helping with chairs as you are able, welcoming new members, and
being kind and respectful to staff and other singers at all times.
  2. Work as a member of a cooperative ensemble by blending your voice, taking constructive
criticism, and, well… not being a diva.
  3. Pay seasonal dues and participate in fundraising activities and other events as you are able to
help keep the organization financially stable and visible in our local community. Please note
that all dues and donations are non-refundable.
  4. Learn and practice music independently according to your own abilities and needs. Ask for help
    if you need it.
  5. Be available for all dress rehearsals and performances. (This one is a deal-breaker – if you are
unable to commit to these dates, we will welcome you back another season when you can.)
In return, the staff and board of directors of the Cumberland Singers agree to administer the finances,
logistics, and schedule of the choir; provide sheet music and practice materials; provide an enjoyable
and educational community singing experience; and encourage cooperation and community among its
    members.
Please note that if you prove unable to learn/sing our music, help will be offered by the director/board
of directors. On rare occasions, a member may be asked to leave the choir if they are unable, after
receiving help, to fulfill the basic requirements of singing in the choir.
